Lionsgate is really trying to push the 3-D aspect of the upcoming "My Bloody Valentine" remake, by creating 2-D images that are in your face. The newest poster, courtesy of STYD, features a cole miner swinging a pickaxe. The tagline states: "Get your heart broken."
The new movie revolves around Tom Hanniger (Jensen Ackles), who returns to his hometown on the tenth anniversary of the Valentine's night massacre that claimed the lives of 22 people. Instead of a homecoming, however, Tom finds himself suspected of committing the murders, and it seems like his old flame (Jaime King) is the only one will believes he's innocent.
"My Bloody Valentine 3D" is directed by Patrick Lussier, the man behind "Dracula 2000" and "White Noise 2: The Light." His new movie is scheduled to hit theaters on January 16th, 2009.

You saw some reviews hit the web regarding Marcus Nispel's Friday the 13th, now it looks as if we'll be seeing something completely different when the film hits theaters February 13, 2009. Some pretty sweet news comes in this afternoon as sources tell us that Platinum Dunes shot additional scenes for New Line Cinema's remake, which follows a group of young adults that find themselves going toe-to-toe with the infamous Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears) at a cabin near Camp Crystal Lake. What exactly was shot is unknown, but we can confirm a new (or possibly variant) ending was in fact filmed. That would be pretty awesome to see on the DVD!

Panto Steve: I'm just like Depp |
Dec 3, 2008 |

ONE is over here doing panto – the other is Hollywood’s biggest star and a multi-millionaire.
Yet amazingly, fading Eighties actor STEVE GUTTENBERG reckons he is right up there with JOHNNY DEPP.
It’s like BARRY CHUCKLE trying to say he’s as good as CHARLIE CHAPLIN.
Steve — or Mahoney as he’s better known after playing the cop in the first four Police Academy films — is currently treading the boards as Baron Hard-up in Cinderella in Bromley, Kent.
Johnny is getting ready to earn his next Ł32million for the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean, movie.
But Steve reckons he should be mentioned in the same breath as the Hollywood heart-throb and the late, great PAUL NEWMAN.
And he doesn’t just stop with Tinsel Town’s finest.
He also found time to compare himself to some of the biggest painters the world has ever produced, including VAN GOGH and PICASSO.
Steve said: “I am an artist. I paint pictures. And sometimes my pictures sell and sometimes they don’t.
“But that doesn’t mean I am not an artist. You know Picasso was the same artist when he sold his paintings as when he didn’t.
“Van Gogh never sold a painting his whole life and now his paintings sell for millions of dollars. Does that mean he wasn’t a success?
“But that is the way a career is, you go up and down. If you talked to ROBERT REDFORD or Paul Newman, you know, everything is up and down.
“Are you going to walk up to Johnny Depp and say he is any less of an actor because he is doing the fourth Pirates movie?”
No, Steve. He’s probably too busy at some glamorous location making films we want to watch.
You however, are in Kent with Scouts shouting “behind you” every night before heading back to your B&B.
Don’t get me wrong, I was a huge fan of Police Academy and other films Steve starred in.
But I haven’t been sickened by ego so badly since SHAKIN’ STEVENS claimed his name should be held in the same esteem as BONO or STING.
I’m off to Bromley this weekend to throw rotting veg at Mahoney. Below I’ve compared him to Johnny

Britney Spears is abusing prescription drugs in a bid to keep her weight down, a new report claims.
The singer - who has been under the conservatorship of her father, Jamie, since earlier this year - has managed to get herself back into shape over the past couple of months.
But it has come at a price - she is plagued by insomnia and shaking fits.
Star magazine: "Although Brit has come a long way since her shocking mental breakdowns, insiders say she's far from fine. In fact, the pop tart is so obsessed with her body that she goes to bed hungry and is abusing a prescription drug to keep her weight down.
In her desperate quest to be slim, Brit has also reluctantly returned to the gym, says another source. "But she was still having trouble losing the last five to 10 pounds. So she turned to more drastic measures." The source says that Brit started also going in for twice-weekly colonics to shed a few pounds. And sometimes she goes days without eating any solid food."
Spears celebrated her 27th birthday on Tuesday, December 2.
She has also just announced the dates for her Circus world tour.

Lauren Shuler Donner, mother of all the past and upcoming X-Men movies, recently spoke to IndieLondon while promoting The Secret Life of Bees and revealed that her next focus will be X-Men Origins: Magneto.
Q. How is Wolverine coming along?
Lauren Shuler Donner: It’s good… it’s very good. I’m very pleased with it. It’s very much an origins story. It’s very much in the tone of the first X-Men.
Q. And how about Magneto?
Lauren Shuler Donner: We have a great script on Magneto. I’ll tell you the honest truth… I’ve made four movie this year and I was so busy that I didn’t at all talk to the studio while making Magneto because I couldn’t have done it. And David Goyer, who wrote and is going to direct it, also did another movie. So now, he’s done with his and I’m done with two of mine, so when I get back that’s my first order of business to say: “Come on, let’s go and make Magneto.”
If X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a success next May then that will prove solo character films can work, and Magneto will probably move forward (if David Goyer doesn’t start on another movie)

Kim Kardashian bounced her big booty to her blog to clear up some reports that she snubbed Hugh Hefner over appearing in Playboy again. She's loving Hef, but her career isn't taking her in that direction. For now. Also? She doesn't use the term "one-off." Get it right.
"There are a bunch of reports about me on the web saying that I snubbed Hugh Hefner. They're quoting me as saying, "It was a one-off. I don't think I'll do Playboy or anything like that again."
I WAS TOTALLY MISQUOTED.
First of all, I have never used the term "one-off." It's simply not in my vocabulary.
I'm not planning to pose for the magazine any time soon. My whole point in this post is to say I would never snub Hugh Hefner. I love him and his whole team were lovely to me and treated me like family. Lately I have steered away from sexier shoots but it doesn't mean I'm afraid to be sexy or ashamed of that. I have no regrets. One day you never know, but it's not the direction I'm going in now," she blogs. And added - "f*ck you, Joey Fatone!" Ok, she didn't
Translation: Not right now, Momma's got a lucrative reality show. But ring me up once in awhile with a dollar figure and I'll sleep on it. Here's Kim in a ruffled number working some bangs at the Diamond Empowerment Fund for Africa dinner at Hearst Tower in NYC last night. What do you think? Would Kim doing Playboy again help or hurt her career? Let us know in the comments section! |

Some people will do anything for $24 million. Camilla Belle's new friend Robert Pattinson, brooding star of teengirl freakout vamp flick Twilight, says that he went through a two month grueling workout regimen to play angsty Edward Cullen.
"I was so much more muscular than I have ever been in my life, but I looked weird," Pattinson says.
He did three hours of kickboxing every day, and two hours of running. That's dedication. But director Catherine Hardwicke agreed that he was too stringy and made him gain back 30 lbs.
Here's Pattinson at the UK premiere of Twilight last night in London's Leicester Square. He walked a black carpet complete with dry ice. Corny-ass. |

Common Would Like To Return For ‘Wanted 2’ With Angelina Jolie — But How? |
Dec 3, 2008 |

His day job has made Common a hit with the critics and kept him at the top of the charts over the last several years — a trend that seems likely to continue when his eagerly-anticipated “Universal Mind Control” comes out this week. But moviegoers have had their own epiphany while enjoying his soulful presence in “Smokin’ Aces,” “Street Kings” and “American Gangster,” and the Chicago-born rapper is holding out hope that his most recent gig might give him his first film franchise.
“I was really just glad to be in that flick, with Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie, and I really admire James McAvoy,” he told us recently of “Wanted,” his eye-popping action film that hits DVD and Blu-Ray this week. (Here’s a list of the “Wanted” DVD and Blu-Ray special features.) “It was an honor to be around them, and to be filming in Prague, and then for the movie to come out and be so successful was great.”
Terrence Stamp told us awhile back that his character was written in specifically for sequel purposes, and screenwriter Chris Morgan has been hired to write “Wanted 2.” But, after Angelina Jolie offered her own input into the conclusion of “Wanted,” the franchise seems to have painted itself into a corner.
SPOILER ALERT: Want to know why? Keep reading.
“It would be best with Angelina, if they could make it a prequel,” speculated Common, citing his hope to bring back the strong supporting cast from the first flick, even though they all died at the end of the film. “That would be great. Because you didn’t get to know my character too well; you didn’t get to know a lot about him.”
Last month, Morgan said “Wanted 2’ would work off the principal that “the point is to continue the journey that Wes started in the first film,” which wouldn’t seem to bode well for us ever seeing Common’s Gunsmith, Jolie’s Fox or virtually anyone else.
Common revealed to us that he hasn’t officially been told he won’t be required for “Wanted 2,” so he’s keeping his hopes up. “I haven’t heard what they are doing, they are keeping it tight right now probably until they get the script written,” he explained. ‘But I’m enthused that they have a sequel.”
After watching “Wanted,” it would seem quite impossible to bring back a handful of characters last seen taking a bullet through the skull. Then again, when you’re talking about a film franchise that has characters conducting assassinations from the roof of a moving train, it seems like anything is possible.
“I would love to come back for it; it was a great franchise to be a part of,” Common insisted. “It’s really clever and new, and definitely innovative.”
Would you see a “Wanted” sequel with McAvoy and Stamp as the only returning cast members? Or would you rather have Morgan figure out a way to bring back Jolie, Common, and the others? Give us your best ideas on how they could pull it off! |

The best thing about this year's Oscar season is that, if The Dark Knight makes it in as a big contender, it will be propelled by the sheer power of millions and millions of fans. The unofficial For Your Consideration site DarkCampaign.com is only part of the evidence, though it's probably the best-looking one too. Some Dark Knight fans have gathered together to build a site dedicated entirely to getting Oscar nominations for what, for my money, is still one of the best movies of 2008.
The highlight is a clip reel of the movie, which we've embedded below but appears in much better quality on the site. They've picked a lot of moments that you haven't seen over and over again in the trailers-- the Joker saying "hi" to Harvey Dent in the hospital, the police scattering after the mayor is shot, Harvey threatening Gordon's family. The only part missing is the tractor-trailer flipping over, though that's a better argument for the movie's effects than its status as the best movie of 2008.
Having seen the bulk of this year's Oscar contenders (which I'll write about later today in my Oscar column), there's not much that holds a candle to The Dark Knight. The DarkCampaign guys mention 1999 as a possible precedent for this year, in which visionary movies like Fight Club, The Matrix and The Iron Giant were overlooked in favor of Oscar bait like The Green Mile. Let's not let history repeat itself! The Dark Knight deserves a Best Picture nomination, but to get there, it'll need all the help from fans it can get. Luckily, there's a whole lot of us |

Moriarty Will Be In Sherlock Holmes |

Mark Strong is getting all the credit as the bad guy of Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes, playing "the ultimate cad" Lord Blackwood in the film starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. But apparently there are even bigger villain fish to fry-- and those will be saved for the sequel.
He told IGN that Holmes's super-duper archnemesis, Moriarty, will make a small appearance in the film. ""Moriarty's in it... but you don't really see him. I think he's there because if the franchise carries on, there's a possibility that he will appear in a larger guise."
Ahhh, so it's all about the sequel, is it? Doesn't surprise me-- this movie has potential to be massive provided it's any good, and Holmes is a character well-suited to a sequel, having had so many serial adventures. Now the big question is just what Strong means when he says "you don't really see" Moriarty. Will it be like when you see the Joker's calling card at the end of Batman Begins? Or like how you saw Captain America in a vial in The Incredible Hulk? As if we didn't have enough to speculate over with the Sherlock Holmes movie.

Trailer for 'Screamers 2' -- Yep, 'Screamers 2' |

Raise your hand if you remember the movie Screamers. OK, keep your hand raised if you remember anything other than "Peter Weller," "Philip K. Dick," and "box office failure." Yeah, that's what I thought. It's not that Screamers is that rotten of a sci-fi horror movie ... more that it's just OK. Not awful, but certainly not cool enough to warrant a full-bore cult following. But that hasn't stopped a bunch of Canadian filmmakers from unleashing Screamers: The Hunting.
I'll embed the trailer clip in just a sec, but since Quiet Earth did the leg-work on this item, we'll refer you to their site for more info. Screamers: The Hunting looks pretty plain across the board, but of course I'm always interested in seeing a video sequel to a 14-year-old sci-fi flick that nobody talks about anymore. (I'm weird that way. Someone kick me if they ever find a trailer for Galaxy of Terror 2.) Digging a little deeper I learned that Screamers 2 was directed by Sheldon Wilson (Kaw, Shallow Ground) and written by Miguel Tejada-Flores, who used to write fun flicks for Filmax, so I'm feeling 10% better about Screamers: The Hunting than I was ten minutes ago.
Except ten minutes ago, I had no idea Screamers: The Hunting even existed. (Oh wait, yes I did.) Expect the flick's arrival in the next month or two. Probably on Sci-Fi Channel, but I'll just wait for the DVD.

Dennis Hopper has previously revealed that a third installment in the "Speed" franchise is being worked on and that he will be in it. Later, an AICN scooper revealed that 20th Century Fox is planning a reintroduction of Jack Traven and are hoping to get Keanu Reeves to reprise the role.
To figure out what's going on, IGN went straight to Reeves, who denied knowledge of the project and insisted that he won't star in it. "I honestly don't know anything about it," he said. "I don't know if they are going to make another one, and if they are it won't be with me... honestly!"
The original Speed, which starred Reeves and Sandra Bullock, revolved around a bus wired up to a bomb that would explode should the vehicle's speed drop below 50 mph. A sequel was made with Jason Patric stepping in as a new character to replace Reeves. |

We already heard from Ron Howard that an "Arrested Development" movie is pushing forward, but now we learn that it could actually start shooting as early as next summer.
Actor Jason Bateman (Hancock, Juno) has revealed that things are now moving quickly. "Well it looks as if it's going to happen," he said. "The question is who wants to be a part of it."
He continued: "I think there's still a couple more conversations to be had with some of the cast, once we get a good head count we'll be able to really sort out the story and the script and hopefully we'll be shooting in the summer."
Some of the actors on the show have since become big stars. Those actors include Bateman, Will Arnett (Blades of Glory) and Michael Cera (Superbad).
Would you still see the "Arrested Development" movie if they re-cast some of the roles? |

"Punisher 2" Director Considered for "Jonah Hex" |

The "Jonah Hex" drama continues. It all started with Thomas Jane asking to star in "Jonah Hex," but directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank) rejected him in favor of attracting Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men). Later, Brolin stated that he wouldn't put his career in the hands of Neveldine and Taylor, which many assume caused the studio to drop the directors in order to keep Brolin.
Now, LatinoReview is reporting that Lexi Alexander (Punisher: War Zone) has been sent the script for "Hex," to see if she would be interested in directing it. The site caught up with her to ask whether she likes the script.
"I do," she said. "I like it even more that Mr. Josh Brolin is still attached. Who knows if he'll stay, but it's more exciting than I thought. You get a story like this you think, 'Oh God, I'm going to be doing the same thing over and over again.' But it's really, really interesting."
She added: "I would change some things in the script, but you know. It's not there yet. I'm sure there's many, many directors up for the same thing."
Do you think Lexi is a better choices than Neveldine and Taylor? |

Kevin Federline PEOPLE Magazine Interview December 2008 |
Dec 3, 2008 |
SexiVixxEN |

Kevin Federline has been called many things in the nearly five years since Britney Spears walked into his life: boy toy, gold-digger, wannabe rapper, partier. These days he answers to one name: Daddy.
Since splitting with Spears in 2006 – and then watching in fear as she went through her very public breakdown – the former backup dancer, 30, has channeled all of his energy into their sons Preston, 3, and Jayden, 2. (Federline also has two kids, Kori, 6, and Kaleb, 4, with ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson, 32.)
Now that Spears, 27, is getting her life back on track, they're sharing parenting duties again – and Federline is ready to tell his side of the story exclusively to PEOPLE.
Do you remember when you first met Britney?
I met her at a club in Hollywood, Joseph's. Our eyes met and that was it. We just hit it off right away. I learned real fast how much of a whirlwind the press and everything was.
What are your happiest memories of the marriage?
Well, getting married. I never thought that I would get married but it wound up happening. That was a really, really, happy, exciting moment. I pretty much realized that I was giving my life to her, and I was doing it without question.
What went wrong?
It's hard enough to be in a marriage, and then have a kid, then kids, it changes everything. For me, I'd become more concerned with my children. Not that I ignored Britney, but my kids are always most important ... I mean, we were having complications. I didn't give her an ultimatum, but I was trying to work stuff out with her, and she didn't even talk to me or anything and went behind my back and filed [for divorce]. [I was] completely blindsided.
A lot of people assumed you fought for custody of the kids because of money.
My first question to [my lawyer] was, "Am I ever going to be able to see my children?" I told him that I would spend every last dime that I had to make sure that my children are okay. That's all that mattered. I didn't know how much power Britney had. That really scared me.
How did you react in January when Britney locked herself in the bathroom with Jayden and was later taken to the hospital on a gurney?
That whole night is a blur. You want to talk about one of my lowest points of depression, that was probably one of them. I was very, very worried for her 'cause I care about her. That's the mother of my children. Just because I'm not in love with her doesn't mean that I don't love her. I'm definitely rooting for her. There's nothing more that I want than for her to be in the best health and doing what she loves to do.
Are things getting better?
Oh, man, it's totally turning around. It works out that [the kids] get to see her. There's structure over there, there's structure at my house. We're trying to keep the same type of schedule. It doesn't have to be completely perfect, but the foundation is there.

Exclusive Set Visit! HBO’s East Bound and Down With Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, and Ben Best. |
Dec 3, 2008 |

Pulling into the suburbanish neighborhood of Marsh Oaks in Wilmington, North Carolina, one would not expect this quiet enclave to be ground zero for an American Comedy Valhalla, but surprise, surprise. On the sunny backyard patio of an upscale home, a camera is rolling as Pineapple Express director, David Gordon Green, casually pitches one-liners to Danny McBride. His suggestions are incredibly vile.
“Okay Danny, now say ‘she’s my cum dumpster,’” says Green, with a focused smirk, his moderately tired eyes hidden beneath a pair of Ray Bans. “She’s my cum dumpster,” delivers McBride with deadpan redneck aplomb, referring to his date, the local floozie who’s standing nearby and currently flirting with a large, black male. “I put a lot of shit into her.” I’m standing a few feet away, hearing this ribald improv through a headset, surrounded by the cast and crew of East Bound and Down. Nobody is laughing—professionalism aside—because everyone knows these lines are funny as shit, the funniest shit you can imagine. Airing in February on HBO, this new original series from the all-star creative team behind The Foot Fist Way, which also includes Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, looks to do for Southern stereotypes what Larry David did for rich neurotics burdened with follically-challenged cul-de-sacs.
However, it turns out that Green is now directing the majority of the show’s six episodes, while Hill is wrapping up Observe and Report (pegged by me as the darkhorse classic comedy of spring ’09). Hill was arriving on location shortly to film the finale ep, and McKay (Talladega Nights, Step Brothers) also directed an episode. Originally, Will Ferrell was scheduled to contribute his first-ever gig behind the camera, but got sidetracked rehearsing his 2009 George W. Bush stage show. He had just flown out to do SNL while I was there. In East Bound, he plays an “alphamale owner of a local BMW dealership” named Ashley Shaper who sizes up dicks with Powers (probably not literally).
Green is candid. Everyone on this set is. Half of my interviews contain party stories and crazy shit that was sworn off the record. While riding back from craft services, Green semi-dismissed a well known ensemble actress unrelated to the show as “…or whatever her name is.” Funny. When I ask if East Bound’s half-hour episodes and UK-inspired six-episode season will leave viewers frustrated for real depth a la Entourage (RIP), he grins and quickly says, “No. It’s not like that.” And then, as if he’s cutting a taut line, “And I’ve never watched Entourage.” What about the divisive Southern accents on HBO’s vamp-hit, True Blood, which is set in Green’s home of New Orleans? “I can’t watch that show.”

IGN had the chance to chat with Kevin McKidd ("Rome," "Journeyman") at the premiere of "Punisher: War Zone," who revealed that he is still in the running to star in the Marvel's upcoming "Thor" movie.
McKidd added that there has been "a lot of back and forth" about the project, but nothing has been determined. He acknowledged that Kenneth Branagh is directing it, a choice that makes him even more excited about the film.
McKidd stressed that the part that he's up for is indeed that of Thor and not a supporting role. This contradicts what McKidd said last year when he suggested that Thor might be played by a younger actor and that he would be up for a different role instead.
Do you think Kevin McKidd would make a good Thor?

The Dirty Dancing star was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March, prompting an outpouring of support from fans.
Early reports from the US claimed he only had weeks to live, but brave Patrick has returned to work and is positive about his future.
Patrick said: "Pancreatic cancer is an aggressive disease and from the moment I was diagnosed, I knew I was in for the fight of my life.
"It's a battle, and so far I've been winning. I'm one of the lucky few that responds well to treatment."
Patrick is still angered by those false rumours regarding his condition, labelling them "cruel".
Patrick added: "They're reporting that I'm on my last legs and saying goodbye to my tearful family.
"For me, my family, and those close to me, it amounts to downright emotional cruelty. That makes me angry when hope is so precious."

EXCLUSIVE: Matt Damon Films 'Green Zone' |

Barack Obama supporter Matt Damon is done being political and humanitarian for the time being and has returned to what he does best, which is spy movies. The Bourne Identity actor is currently filming Green Zone, in which he's taking on the role of a soldier.
There are CIA agents, a hunt for Weapons of Mass Destruction and a foreign correspondent. It all sounds very exciting and the potential to be highly confusing for anyone not paying attention to the current international political climate (ahem, much like ourselves). But there will probably be lots of trucks exploding and an exposed nipple here and there and that's always good.
Damon dropped the weight he'd put on for his role in The Informant, opting for a leaner look this time around. As long as he doesn't get all Christian Bale from The Machinist on us, then we're happy.

This time, it's Spain who has had the Australian flag plunged into its soil to be claimed by the Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman vehicle. And yes, it was about as phallic as it sounds. And you loved it.
Kidman once again brought along her second tiny husband Keith Urban to the Madrid premiere after the Kidman-Urban family spent some time checking out portraits of ladies with their eyes and noses all askew in gay Paris.
Handsome Hugh recently expressed a desire to return to the Broadway stage and never has it been more apparent than at this premiere, where he showed up looking like he was harboring a not-so-secret fantasy to star in Guys and Dolls.
Sadly, Sunday Rose Urban didn't feel up to attending to the event. Word has it, she was feeling as if her crow's feet were getting a bit too pronounced and thought the worst thing to do would be to stand next to her mother.

If anyone knows how to have a meltdown, it's former Hole frontwoman Courtney Love. And in her recent interview with Elle magazine, on which she's featured on the cover
The often drug-addled singer says in the interview that her downward spiral enabled Britney Spears to experience her very public nervous breakdowns that ended with her in the hospital. "I had a long, hard fall. I set the stage for Britney to crash and burn. I went through it all first."
It's not exactly clear if Courtney thinks she should be ashamed or proud of this fact. Needless to say, she's pretty delusional but always entertaining!
The plastic surgery enthusiast also denied that she got a gastric lap band to lose weight. "I did go to see a Hollywood doctor about it. I wasn't desperate, I just knew I had to do something," Courtney claims.
Instead, Love says she shed the weight the old-fashioned way--by not eating. Courtney's kind of old-school in that sense. |

Director Roman Polanski is requesting that the 30-year-old child-sex charge against him be dismissed, says the Associated Press.
Lawyers for R.P. say a documentary film about the director has exposed “misconduct and improper communications” between the judge and prosecutors involved in his case.
The Polish-born filmmaker fled the United States for Europe in 1978 after he was charged with having sex with a 13-year-old girl.
Despite his status as a fugitive from justice, Polanski’s 2003 film The Pianist won an Academy Award.

Twilight star Kristen Stewart has signed on to play famous rock’n'roller Joan Jett in The Runaways. Music video director Floria Sigismondi wrote and will helm the project. Sigismondi’s videos have included Marilyn Manson’s Tourniquet, Christina Aguilera’s Fighter and The White Stripes’ Blue Orchid.
The film is a biopic of the first successful all-girl hard rock band The Runaways (hence the title), which fell apart after four years due to management and money disputes. According to THR, the film “will revolve around Jett and [singer-keyboardist Cherie] Currie and follow them from the band’s meteoric rise as teenagers to their dissolution and disillusionment.”
River Road Entertainment hopes to go into production in 2009, but they will have to work around the Twilight sequel New Moon, which is supposedly gearing up for a March 2009 start. |

Watchmen Running Time Gets Shortened |
Dec 3, 2008 |

Last we heard (in October), Watchmen had a running time of 2 hours and 43 minutes. Well apparently is has gotten shorter. Sci-Fi reports that the current running time is two hours and 35 minutes, and the studio has yet to approve that cut. But fans shouldn’t worry as I wouldn’t expect the film to get that much shorter. I predict the film will end up around two and a half hour.
The eventual directors cut will be clock in at three hours and 10 minutes in length. Zack Snyder says that it has “even more than the theatrical version as far as the detail that gets even closer to the graphic novel.” But hardcore fans will have to wait for what Snyder is calling the “huge epic version” which will incorporate a 20-minute animated adaptation of The Black Freighter, bringing the total running time to three hours and 40 minutes.
Discuss: But why wait for Blu-ray/DVD?
Why doesn’t Warner Bros hold theatrical digital screenings of the “Epic Version” in a handful of the major cities after the film has been in theaters for a month or so? Sounds like a great way for the studio to make more money, without that much of an extra expense. We already know their plans to triple-dip the home video release, why not let us see the whole fucking thing on the big screen? Hardcore fans will make the trip to the city to see the extended cut, and I’m sure you could even charge a premium ticket prices for the screenings. |

James Cameron Criticizes Tim Burton and 3D DVD Releases |

James Cameron gave a keynote presentation at the 3D Entertainment Summit today, and took aim at Tim Burton, who is filming Disney’s upcoming 3D adaptation of Alice in Wonderland using 2D cameras. Burton plans to convert the footage to 3D in post production, a decision that has angered and baffled the 3D community. “It doesn’t make any sense to shoot in 2D and convert to 3D,” Cameron said.
The Titanic filmmaker later attacked the industry’s decision to release 3D films on DVD/Blu-ray with the old red and blue anaglyphic glasses. According to FirstShowing, Cameron said that such releases are “stunting 3D growth,” and hurting the progression of the format. Amen. It’s going to take a little while for the public to accept 3D films, and its going to take Hollywood a while to perfect the art of 3D filmmaking, and the release of old technology is counterproductive to the cause.
MarketSaw was also able to confirm that a movie trailer has yet to be cut for AVATAR as not enough footage is completed. Cameron claims he hasn’t spoken to Fox about trailer placement but that there will be many opportunities in terms of 3D movies over Spring/Summer 2009. |

Entertainment Weekly has a bit of bad news on the Veronica Mars movie front. Series creator Rob Thomas tells Michael Ausiello that he “hasn’t gotten far” on the movie outline.
“I thought I had the idea broken, but I’ve hit a wall in the final act that I haven’t quite figured out. And with Cupid and Party Down occupying 80 hours a week, and a new baby boy occupying the remaining hours, I haven’t nailed it down. I’m hopeful that I can find the time to figure it out over the Christmas holidays.”
We hope so too. Wait a second… Cupid and Party Down? Does anyone really care about either of those projects? Rob, get cracking on the final act of the Veronica Mars movie. We need this film to go into production before Kristen Bell is 30-years-old (which, believe it or not, is only two years away). |

Ah, Johnny Depp, staying predictably off-the-wall even after he's seemingly sold his soul to Disney for the rest of his life. The man who will reprise Jack Sparrow for the fourth Pirates movie will also star in a completely nutso take on Dante's Divine Comedy, titled In the Hand of Dante. The movie will be based on a novel by Nick Tosches.
Depp, according to Variety, will play Tosches, who is asked to authenticate what may or may not be Dante's original manuscript for The Divine Comedy. In the meantime the story also follows Dante while he tries to complete the piece in the 14th century. See, if we're going to make this truly crazy, we'll have Depp playing both roles-- but maybe now that he's taking a break from Tim Burton, he'll stick to something a little more traditional.
Depp's Infinitum Nihil production company will be producing the movie, along with a ton of other fascinating projects they've got in development. This one is hard to wrap my brain around, but the company has shown such good taste in the past that there's a little room here for blind trust. |
